Daughters of Ireland Umbrella
Inghinidhe na hÉireann - meaning Daughters of Ireland, inspired by my research into women in Irish history.
Inghinidhe na hÉireann was founded by Maude Gonne. This design is dedicated to their part in the Celtic revival and events which led to Easter 1916 Rising. I was very much inspired by Maude & Alice Milligan igniting the magic of Irish folklore and bringing tableaux vivants to the countryside of Ireland. I felt with commemorations taking place for 1916, these women were forgotten. Early 20th Century Ireland had a vibrant women’s equality movement, which we can learn so much from.
