As a screen printing artist, I have a love of textile art history and the influence of women in establishing small industries.
In 2018, I started working with Trudy Carmody from Experiencing Laois and Mountmellick Embroidery Museum on a project to discover Ireland's rich lace and embroidery heritage.
Thread Softly through Ireland takes people on a tour of all things threading. Experience the rich heritage of the cottage industries of lace, embroidery, tapestry through workshops, heritage stories and the people who thread.
Co Laois, Ireland, is renowned worldwide for Mountmellick embroidery, Ireland's only truly indigenous lace. Myself and Trudy launched Thread Softly festival of Stitch on the last weekend of September 2019 which coincided with International Lace Day.
Through my research into medieval trades, I had been stitching my own sketchbooks for a while now and ran "A Stitch in Time Workshop" where participants created their own notebooks and screenprinted Thread Softly on the cover.
I also ran a mini-workshop on screen printing in the fabulous gardens of Ballintubbert House. We were completely overwhelmed by the response to our wee festival and look forward to growing it in the years to come!
